To support farmers connect and learn from other farmers, peer-to-peer farmer groups in the Great Barrier Reef (GBR) catchment, can now apply for up to $20,000 (ex GST) for projects and regional events.

The purpose of the funding is to support groups undertake projects that contribute to:

  • Adoption of improved farming practices
  • Improved water quality flowing to the GBR
  • Enhanced capacity, skills and knowledge within farmer groups and the farming community

Landcare and/or local catchment or sub-catchment groups working with farmers to improve farming practices can also apply.

Applications close 5 pm, Friday 14 June 2024.

The latest round follows on from the successful first round where 25 farmer peer-to-peer groups were funded for projects.

Once group to benefit from the first round of funding was a group of Mackay Whitsunday sugarcane growers (pictured), who travelled to the Burdekin to learn and hear about the adoption of smart irrigation technology. These growers will now work with their host organisation Reef Catchments and industry to identify, learn about and implement effective irrigation strategies for their farms.
