QCAR is excited to announce its involvement in two groundbreaking initiatives aimed at revolutionising the sugarcane industry. With generous support from AgForce Cane Ltd., our collaboration is driving forward the Yellow Canopy Syndrome (YCS) research project, promising valuable insights into this pressing issue affecting sugarcane crops.
In addition to our work on YCS, QCAR is actively contributing to the advancement of the Ratoon Stunting Disease (RSD) field testing initiative. Spearheaded by our Senior Agricultural Technical Officer, Mr. Lawrence DiBella, in partnership with AgEtal Pty Ltd., this project aims to develop a practical field kit for on-site RSD testing, empowering farmers with efficient, cost-effective solutions. Through these collaborative efforts, QCAR remains committed to delivering tangible benefits to our members and driving innovation in the sugarcane industry.

Are you aware of the invaluable benefits offered by our FREE Farm Emissions Analysis? This comprehensive assessment doesn’t just stop at measuring emissions but extends to include Scope 3 emissions, providing a holistic view of your farm’s environmental impact.
By considering all greenhouse gas emissions in your farm’s value chain, this analysis offers targeted insights into areas where emissions reduction efforts can yield the greatest impact.
This analysis serves as a stepping stone towards completing an AgCarE Natural Capital Assessment, offering a deeper understanding of your farm’s environmental footprint and paving the way for sustainable practices.
As the demand for environmentally friendly agricultural products continues to rise, participating in these assessments positions visionary farmers for competitive finance rates, potential insurance benefits, and preference from downstream markets.
Conducted by our trusted corporate partner, NutrienAgSolutionsAu, in collaboration with AgForce Cane Limited, these assessments represent a significant opportunity for QCAR members to gain invaluable insights into their farming practices and contribute to a more sustainable agricultural future.

In a career spanning 34 years, Lawrence Di Bella, QCAR’s Agriculture Technical Officer, has encountered an unprecedented rat plague. The staggering loss of 400,000 tonnes of cane, amounting to approximately $25 million, underscores the severity of the infestation.
At QCAR, we are actively addressing the rat plague issue by spearheading initiatives to combat the infestation. One such initiative involves encouraging farmers to participate in aerial rat-off baits over cane fields.
This strategic approach aims to tackle the extensive infestation head-on and safeguard agricultural yields. By collectively engaging in these efforts, we are working towards mitigating the impact of the rat plague on our community and supporting the resilience of our vital agricultural sector.
